Koh Lipe is a small tropical paradise with all the usual (but welcome) clichés: white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, coconut tree-fringed beaches, luxuriant tropical forest, colourful coral reefs (25% of the world's tropical fish can be found here), but to make it short, the main attraction here is the natural splendor of the island.

While some places may charge as little as 500 baht for very basic accommodation in the high season, these guesthouses sell out quickly.

We went in low season so the island was quiet, one more day and I think we could have been bored.

Sunrise Beach has quite a few resorts as well as a small Chao Ley (Sea Gypsies) Village with some basic shops and small eateries. Four main beaches grace the coastlines of Koh Lipe. Departing from Bangkok, you can take a flight to Hat Yai (1½h), then take a minibus to Pak Bara (2h), and finally, catch a ferry to Koh Lipe (1½h).
